Description
Guinea-Bissau’s special music is gumbe. Always sung in Kriolu, its a creative amlagamation of local music traditions with contemporary sounds, atrue expression of the local culture. It has a slight Latin feel to it and has been compared to samba, though it is much more polyryhthmic. The many musical styles that echo in gumbe all continue their independent existences .Broxa dancing of the Balante people is a treat and is followed frequently by gentle plucking of the kussunde (flute). Other regional traditions include wild acrobatics and haunting flute of the Fula, the Mandinka kora (which has its origins in the area) and the drumming and masked dances of the Bijagos
